Timocious - The Interview

I remember the first time connecting with Timocious was on DJ Heather’s streams. Probably one of the coolest, down to earth dudes I was fortunate to meet and he is definitely a huge supporter of House Music. We were lucky to have been able to reach out to Timocious to do an interview! We wanted to share with you what he brings out to all of us from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Be sure you give Timocious a follow at

1. What’s your real name and DJ Name?
Tim Judge – Timocious (it was my grandfather’s nickname for me)

2. How did you get into DJing?
When I first started going to parties, several of my brother’s friends were DJ’s. I bugged them to let me use their gear so I could learn. I even bought a Radio Shack mixer and would use CD players with no pitch control and a turntable with +/-2 or something silly small like that. I got my one and only 2 minute crash course when one of them couldn’t stand the tennis balls in the dryer anymore! LOL! When we were able, my now brother in law and then best friend / roommate and I got SL1200’s (we each bought 1) and played non stop! Trips to Toronto for parties and record shopping were the highlights of my life at that point!

3. What inspired you to become a DJ?
I’ve always loved music and curling up in a big chair with headphones on or just blasting it on the speakers, but when I first went to a rave in Toronto, I was hooked instantly!  I knew that was going to be my passion!

4. What do you enjoy most about DJing?
I love the magic of being in the mix. Those moments when it’s more than just a transition between tracks. When a whole new vibe is born inside the mix that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Being able to share those moments and vibes with people! The dancing, the smiles, the joy… There’s nothing better for me!

5. How would you describe your music style and what makes it unique?
My style is rooted in my love for underground house music vibes of all kinds. From the depths of Deep to Jackin. Heavily Jazzy, Techy, Soulful and even occasionally  Acidy House. I’ll take you on a journey through the underground, great vibes only, looking for the magic in the mix!

6. What has been your favourite gig or event to play at so far?
Playing Thisco Thursday was an amazing experience! Being part of such an incredibly talented lineup and vibing out with people from all over the world. It’s a humbling and remarkable thing being able to share my passion with such amazing people as the Twitch community!

7. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
My influences have been widely varied. From The Beatles to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, Genesis to classical music and 80’s pop to 90’s alternative while growing up.  But when I found my true love, the legends Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak were HUGE influences on me and they still are to this day!

8. Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or releases you have coming up?
There are a few ongoing things I’m part of that I’m very excited for this year. Moments of House run by DJ_Wisp33, Global Mayhem which is Makarius75, JD_Vasquez. DJSimplyB and I. But what I’m most excited about is planning a recurring raid train on Saturday’s this year. Aiming at a monthly or bi-monthly (to start and we’ll see where it goes) event bringing the finest of underground house music to people around the world!

9. How do you stay up to date with new music and trends in the industry?
There are the go to’s like Beatport, Traxsource and Bandcamp of course. But the best way to keep up to date with the industry has been Twitch! Not only are there a lot of great DJ’s that only stream who can represent what’s currently going on, but there are also lots of great DJs that play out at the clubs regularly including some serious industry standards that are on Twitch regularly rinsing out great tracks. You hear the new music that’s coming out all the time, as well as those GREAT older cuts that you may never have heard or just haven’t heard in a long time!

10. What advice do you have for aspiring DJs?
Find the music you LOVE! And I mean LOVE! Study it. Know it. Inside and out, everything you can learn about it. Play it like nobody’s watching and VIBE OUT! Then listen to not only the feedback that people give, but listen to your work. Study it and find the things you want to do better and always work towards being that better DJ you want to be. Believe in yourself! Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. Show respect to EVERYONE!  LIFE IS SHORT! LIVE IT AND LOVE IT! Peace, love, unity and respect! This is the way!

11. How do you think the role of a DJ has changed over the years?
As the years have gone by, the evolution from vinyl to digital has truly changed the game in many ways. You used to have to be at the record store at the right times and happen to find and pickup the right records at the right time to find the best music. Especially if you’re from a smaller city/town and had to go to the big city to go record shopping. Now that the digital era has come music is much more accessible and isn’t limited to the number of records pressed and then which stores got them etc. While it has also made many other aspects of DJing easier and more accessible I truly believe the value of learning on vinyl, or as near a vinyl experience as you can get, is immeasurable! If you can do everything “the hard way” then using technology to allow you take things to the next level will open endless horizons!

12. How long have you been streaming on Twitch?
I’ve been streaming for about 7 months now. I was convinced by a close friend to do a stream. I thought, I’ll do this one, maybe one or two more and that’s it! Over time it’s become something I truly enjoy and I’ve met some of the most amazing people that I’m honoured to call friends! This community is so full of love and support! I love everything about it!

13. Who are your favourite Streamers and why?
DJ Heather! That’s right… the goddess of Chicago House Music! Actually streaming on Twitch. Frank Amodo! Fantastic music, incredible visuals including crazy cameras, produces fantastic cuts and runs an amazing day on Twitch called Thisco Thursdays and one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. DJ_Wisp33! An incredible DJ, fantastic promoter and someone I’m proud to call a friend and mentor! My dear friend and sister in music JenDenATX that started me streaming!  Makarius75 JD_Vasquez DJSimplyB MarkkyDJ RoryNorthall Agent_818 FU_Media Seymobeats DJBradleyBe AlvinEase HouseProudTV ScottSimpsonDJ Gemyrae Matt_the_Lightguy DJNK1 DotOrNot DJ_MrSee DJ_FrankieB TrevorVichas Bubblebooth …. My goodness…. I could just keep going and I am so sorry to everyone I haven’t included here. There are so many! This could literally go on forever!! As for why… THE MUSIC! OH THE MUSIC!! While I appreciate and love the visuals, it’s really ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!

14. Did covid and recent lock-downs influence you to start streaming on Twitch?
Absolutely! My first exposure to Twitch was during early COVID days when the clubs closed and it was one of the only ways to listen to DJ’s doing anything new. All those great streams gave me something to look forward to in a gloomy time. I found that after having taken a long break from it, I really missed DJing. My passion for house music had never gone away and I needed that joy of playing music and the magic of being in the mix back in my life.

15. Anything else you want to add? Good time to shamelessly promote yourself.
I hope to see you all stop through the stream and get down with me! I am part of a weekly Wednesday Night Raid Train with Gemyrae, Matt_the_Lightguy and DotOrNot. I usually play 8-9pm EST and do an ‘Artist Exploration’ of all one artist’s tracks, but this is expanding and times may change. On Saturday’s I play approx 5-7pm EST unless I’m part of an event that day which may alter the times. Please follow me on Instagram (@Timocious) for updates on events and please follow me on Twitch twitch.tv/timocious and turn on notifications to get the heads up when I go live. PEACE, LOVE, UNITY, RESPECT & HOUSE MUSIC ALL LIFE LONG!
